Whipped Body Butter

Here's the recipe for making this velvety, nourishing and all natural whipped body butter. As far as possible, please try to avoid purchasing ingredients from Amazon and support local small businesses if you can.

Recipe (refills yours 6 oz jar)

INGREDIENTS (by percentage + grams)

  • Shea Butter - 40% → 68 g

  • Cocoa Butter - 20% → 34 g

  • Mango Butter - 15% - 26 g

  • Olive Oil - 20% → 34 g

  • Beeswax - 2% → 3.4 g

  • Arrowroot Powder - 2% → 3.4 g

  • Vitamin E (D-Alpha-Tocopherol) - 1%

  • (Optional: Vanilla bean-infused oil - replace part of the olive oil for scent)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Melt the butters + beeswax

In a heat-safe bowl over a double boiler on low heat, melt together shea butter, mango butter, cocoa butter, and beeswax. Stir gently until fully liquid.

  1. Add the liquid oil

Remove from heat and stir in olive oil (or vanilla-bean infused oil). Combine well.

  2. Cool the mixture

Place the bowl in the fridge for 20-40 minutes until the edges start to look opaque but the centre is still soft. Do not let it fully harden.

  3. Add powders + vitamin E

Once semi-solid, add arrowroot powder and vitamin E oil. Mix in thoroughly.

  4. Whip (optional)

Use a hand mixer to whip 3-8 minutes until light, fluffy, and pale. If it's too soft, chill briefly and whip again.

  5. Jar it

Spoon into a 6-oz (170g) jar. Texture will continue to firm slightly over the next 24 hours.

NOTES

  • Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place. Vitamin E helps slow oxidation, giving the butter a typical shelf life of 6-12 months. Avoid getting water in the jar.

  • Use: Apply a small amount to dry skin. Melts on contact. Best after a shower or washing hands.
